The Garden and the Promise By Robert Sauber Verse 1 In the beginning, God spoke light, And darkness bowed before His might. He formed the heavens, earth, and sea, And called it good eternally. He hung the sun to rule the day, The moon and stars to light the way. The waters moved, the dry land stood, And all God made was very good. Chorus God spoke the world, and all was good, Eden bloomed where His mercy stood. But man reached out and turned away, And sin brought night into the day. Still in the garden, hope was born, A promise rose beyond the thorn. The Seed would come, the curse would fall, And God’s grace would answer it all. Verse 2 From dust of the ground, God formed the man, And breathed into him life by His hand. He placed him where the rivers flowed, In Eden’s peace, where beauty glowed. The trees were fair, the fruit was bright, The garden lived in holy light. God gave His word, both clear and true, “One tree alone is not for you.” Chorus God spoke the world, and all was good, Eden bloomed where His mercy stood. But man reached out and turned away, And sin brought night into the day. Still in the garden, hope was born, A promise rose beyond the thorn. The Seed would come, the curse would fall, And God’s grace would answer it all. Verse 3 God saw the man should not be alone, So from his side came flesh and bone. He brought the woman, pure and fair, A help meet formed with tender care. Together they walked without any shame, And knew the Lord, and knew His name. No fear, no death, no grief was near, For love was whole and hearts were clear. Verse 4 Then came the serpent with twisted lies, To turn their hearts and blind their eyes. They took the fruit God warned about, And sin brought fear, and shame, and doubt. They hid themselves among the trees, But God still called through Eden’s breeze. “Where art thou?” came the holy sound, As guilt and sorrow touched the ground. Bridge The serpent would wound, but not prevail, God’s promised Seed would never fail. Though thorns would rise and tears would flow, Redemption’s light began to glow. God clothed their shame before they went, A sign of grace and judgment sent. The garden closed, but hope remained, For God’s own promise still proclaimed. Final Chorus God spoke the world, and all was good, Eden bloomed where His mercy stood. But man reached out and turned away, And sin brought night into the day. Still in the garden, hope was born, A promise rose beyond the thorn. The Seed would come, the curse would fall, And God’s grace would answer it all. Ending They left the garden, but not His sight, They walked through sorrow, but held His light. For from the fall, God’s mercy would call, The promised Seed would redeem us all.
